Well done for being an amazing mom. It must have been so hard keeping a six-year-old cooped up at home. It is surprising to see the resilience of our kids in these unprecedented times. I’m sitting with 3 teens (all girls) at home and honestly, I have had the greatest time with them. I am not sure if they are taking these lockups in their stride because their “world” has been online for so many years that there is no difference to them and that the connections they previously had and that its almost a “normal” to them?

I absolutely loved the idea of adopting a tiger through WWF for him for his birthday, its is such a clever way to give a present but also give a sense of pride as well as responsibility. He must be so proud to tell his friends that he owns a real tiger (and not a plastic one), and I’m sure he will start the next craze amongst his friends with more and more wanting to “own” a real animal.

I laughed at his comment back at you that “he won’t throw any of his toys away”, and so he will not create plastic waste. Clever boy! I do not think he is too little to understand the severity of plastic pollution, and you are doing a great job balancing the information with the already overwhelming uncertainty around them. All in all, I think it is the perfect time to explain how nature is connected to people and how the health of our planet directly affects the health of the people on the planet. One day we will be surprised as to what this generation will achieve as they saw firsthand the devastating consequences of human intervention.

I love following this journey with you and keep up the good work, you doing a great job as a mom (and a student).
